Dr Jordan Self

Hello, my name is Jordan, and I am an independent Educational Psychologist (EP) based in North Oxfordshire. I received an undergraduate degree in Psychology (BSc) in 2014, before receiving qualified teacher status (QTS) and a Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology (DECPsy) from University College London (UCL).

I have over ten years of experience working in education, as the Head of Psychology and the Deputy Head of Sixth Form, then working as an Educational Psychologist within Local Authorities. Most recently, as a Specialist Educational Psychologist in a multi-disciplinary therapeutic service, I supported adopted children, their families and schools, and wider local authority services across Berkshire and Swindon. I have worked across all levels of education, from early years, through primary school, to secondary school and further education, working with mainstream schools, private schools, international schools, special schools, hospital schools, and alternative provisions. I also have a wealth of experience contributing to statutory assessments as part of EHCP process, and have an in-depth understanding of the statutory assessment process.

I started this service to provide timely, high quality, educational psychology assessment and advice for children encountering a wide range of learning or emotional needs that are affecting their access to education, friendships, or family life. I am able to support children with a wide range of complex needs, including those with diagnoses such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, FASD and more.

Why me?

I am a warm and engaging psychologist who excels at communicating in a way that makes sense, without losing the essence of the psychology that underpins the work we do. I want to work towards developing a shared understanding with parents’ and teachers, and deeply value both their roles in this process. I offer a high level of transparency and work with you to bring about positive change. I listen actively to parents’ and teachers’ concerns, and aim to uphold the values of patience, integrity, compassion, respect and trust. I have genuine belief that psychology can bring about meaningful change for children, their families and their schools.

I am able to work flexibly with schools and families. At the outset of any educational psychology support, I will spend time trying to understand the concerns and the hopes that you bring, so that we can agree a plan that is best suited to meeting your needs. All work starts with a free ten minute conversation to help me understand what you are looking for, and to ensure I am the right person to help. I will always be honest if I am not best placed to support you at this point in time, and will do my best to help point you in the right direction.
